Born in 1973 in Okayama, Japan, she moved to California at the age of 18, where she studied painting at the Art Institute of San Francisco before transitioning to photography. In 1995, she relocated to Montreal, Canada, where she continued her art education at Concordia University. After completing her degree, she returned to Japan and worked as a journalist, producer, and documentary filmmaker for various foreign television networks and media outlets.
Following a year spent covering the 2011 disaster on the Pacific coast of Tohoku – the earthquake, tsunami, and Fukushima catastrophe – for a Brazilian television station, she made the decision to refocus on photography and artistic practice. As the recipient of several awards, she has exhibited her work in various countries, notably in Europe, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, and Switzerland. She has also participated in artist residencies.
