Tenha Orgulho
Today, Brazil is the most dangerous country on Earth for an LGBTQIA+ individual; half of the world's homophobic murders occur there.* In 2018, the country I know began to change. The specter of fascism resurfaced in the form of Jair Bolsonaro and his far-right agenda. Within a few months, homophobic attacks increased by 30% in the country; a figure that exponentially climbed throughout his presidency. It was at that point that I embarked on the series "Tenha Orgulho," which translates to "Be Proud." Starting from an intimate circle, the project expanded. Over the course of four years, I traveled across Brazil to create portraits of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
