Henrike Stahl, a German visual artist and photographer, has crafted a language based on the concept of the periphery and the in-between. She delves into territories and identities in transition, challenging conventions and prejudices. Her projects, such as "Mon Roi, Ma Reine" and "Macadam Cowboy," question masculinity and celebrate diversity or freedom. Integrating the periphery into her considerations goes beyond metaphor; it involves constructing new ways of inhabiting photography, breaking barriers, and opening horizons. Becoming a mother, especially to a daughter with Down syndrome, has reinforced her belief that "difference" equates to "beauty." Her fascination with indomitable memory reveals the power of revisiting memories, both good and bad, that shape our lives.

And After…
“And After…” is a transgenerational project carried out with local residents of the north of France between June and November 2022 by german photographer and artist Henrike Stahl. In a process of sharing their memories, they worked together on a form of visual translation of memory. The result is a book and a photographic installation, created by several hands. This original and filigree structure, a true piece of collective memory, has been presented in three distinct locations in three different forms before landing on the beach of Cadaqués.
This project was carried out as part of the “Delta project”, a mediation program supported by two art centers located in the same territory, supported by the DRAC Hauts-de-France and Region Hauts-de-France: L'H du Siège in Valenciennes and the CRP/ in Douchy-les-Mines. For this project, FLAC, a local alternative cultural federation, was exceptionally involved.
Special thanks to Audrey Hoareau fort initiating this project as well as it’s participants: Alice, Annick, Clélia, Emmanuel, Henri, Jeannine, Léona, Manon, Michaël, Noa, Rayan, Sylviane.
