Joan Vehí was born in Cadaqués in 1929. He was a Catalan carpenter and photographer, known for his archives of more than 100,000 photographs, 600 cameras and 600 photographic glass plates on Cadaqués and Salvador Dalí. He was twice advisor to Cadaqués, promoted the center of tourist initiatives and chaired the Latin sailing association for 17 years. He was one of the few people to capture the intimacy of Salvador Dalí with his camera,  whom he met in 1952 and for whom he began to work as a carpenter, making the often very large frames of his paintings, and the household furniture, and then as a photographer, following in the footsteps of his official photographers Robert Descharnes and Melitó Casals « Meli ». He designed the six-foot chair for Dalí. Since 2014, the Joan Vehí collection and archives have been managed by the Joan Vehí Foundation, with the collaboration of the City Council of Cadaqués and the Provincial Council of Girona.

He died on May 4th, 2020 at the age of 90.

The InCadaqués Festival wishes to pay tribute to this great photographer from Cadaqués and to his wonderful life.
