Light: Essence Of Photography

in the Gardens of Salvador Dalí’s House

Essence of photography stems from a place of light. Lighting can make an image rich in layers and saturation; highlight subtleties, accentuate shadows, and subdue. Aperture and shutter play with the amount of light we let in; with that light, a moment is captured, a photograph is formed and a story is told.

This exhibition looks at light as explored by David Lynch. He sees light as an expression of truth distinct to geographical location and the notion of home. The warm lighting of California in the golden hour inspires Lynch’s surrealist filmscapes and cinematic subject matter. Similarly, the light of Cadaqués is a world-renowned magnet and muse; as experienced in the gardens of Salvador Dalí. Whether driving through Mulholland Drive or observing the Cap de Creus, the light of the region speaks to us and influences our path.

Light, Essence Of Photography is curated by Nathaly Charria Jiménez, as part of a collaboration between David Lynch Foundation, Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, and InCadaqués Photo Festival.

Form, Reimagined.

At the Casino, Sala l’Amistat

Molded by the eyes of the beholder and the consciousness of its creator, this exhibition presents a study of the human body in compositions that share a new meaning to the skin that clothes us. David Lynch reimagines shape, figure, and vessel as a conduit for light that follows the curved lines in the structures that form the home we reside in.
Experienced through the surrealist lens of subjectivity, these images explore curved lines and energetic sequences. Lynch describes the importance of a curved line as the linear forms that go on forever; circular structures create infinite sequences. From the shape of the atom to the nucleus of a cell, curved lines form the body we live in. Looking at the body as a vessel of our being, physically temporary and energetically immortal, it is a conduit for energy as the light bulb and the lamp. Experience this exhibition through the energy of pure consciousness, which Lynch describes as the Unified Field.

This exhibition is curated by Nathaly Charria Jiménez in partnership with InCadaques Photography Festival with a percentage of proceeds in benefit of the David Lynch Foundation.
