Tomoko Nagakawa was born in Tokyo in 1973 and later studied at Nihon University College of Art.

She grew up in Japan and then moved to England in 1996. While working as a commercial and editorial photographer and journalist, inspired by meeting various craft masters, she decided to go back to basics by using analog printing technique to create images on different types of papers.
