Sara Imloul
FRANCE
Using photography as her primary language, Sara Imloul produces works oftenly on the edge between photography and drawing, with multiple references to historical and traditional techniques.
For her first series Le Cirque noir (Black Circus, 2007-2010), Sara Imloul produced calotypes –one of the first photographic technique, invented during the 1830’s by British scientist William Henry Fox Talbot– that she retouched using very fine brushes with traditional photographic chemicals.
Her second series Négatifs (Negatives, 2012) is composed of unique photographic prints made directly on paper in the view camera. This traditional technique offers images where black and white are reversed, with oftenly a disturbing similarity with drawing.
